The concept of retirement is so often just like the rest of our lives, filled with the overwhelming social and cultural conditioning of fear. We are gripped by the fears of having nothing to do in retirement, and not having enough money to live comfortably. These fears seem to begin early, and as the cost of living continues to rise, so does the fear.
When we focus on retirement mindfully, it allows us to be fully present in our present-day life, to create the future retirement that we desire. As humans are fear-driven, we tend to project what we don’t want in the future rather than cultivating what we do want. The result is a big difference in the outcome because what you focus on you feed!
Are you in your 50s and starting to worry about retirement? It is time to adjust your focus and create a plan of what you do want rather than worrying about what you don’t want in your future. Then start building that dream retirement, so when you arrive, it is exactly as planned rather than feared.
I’m in my late 50s, and I see many people my age worried about having enough money to live on in retirement, yet they live beyond their means, extended in volumes of debt and stuck in a job they hate.
Mindfulness can help you to focus on living a purposeful and present life. This is where gaining an understanding of the beautiful simplicity of life, can not only improve your present but also your future prospects of retirement.
Think about it, is panicking about something that is yet to exist helpful?
You have the infinite power to make your future anything you wish, including retirement. Yet to do so, you need to cultivate present moment awareness, for it is only here where the building blocks for tomorrow can be put in place.
The alternative is worrying about a future that doesn’t exist yet. What would you prefer? The future you is relying on the present you to get it right here.
Enjoy your life in present-moment awareness. It is never too late to discover what sets your heart on fire. Change your job, downsize your debt, and change where you live. Do whatever it takes to be happy right now. When you learn how to create real inner happiness now, you are already cultivating happiness in your future, and so it shall be yours.
So if you want to create a retirement plan that fills you with excitement rather than fear, begin today to bring back the joy in your life, and you will be well on your way to cultivating the same in your retirement.
It all begins with you, the lens you look through and the joy you cultivate within. Any day now you can take back the power to create the future you desire, including retirement. First, you must break free of the external shackles of fear, by embracing the internal power of love that has been burning within you for all eternity.
What are you choosing?
